E te Iwi tena koutou katoa Firstly, we the Board of the annual National Maori Basketball Tournament are deeply saddened by the cancellation of this year’s tournament due to the government moving the country from orange into red. As a Board we were very keen to have the tournament proceed as per normal with over 250 teams set to gather in Te Arawa for a week of Basketball and whanaungatanga. Unfortunately, at the 11th hour our Prime Minister made the call which may have caught teams and whanau either travelling, about to travel or having to cancel accommodation. We understand your disappointment. To our operations team thank you so much for an outstanding effort. We are aware of the mountain of work, which is required to make this tournament happen, thank you. The Board is well aware that this tournament is no doubt high on the Maori sporting calendar of events every year with over 25-30 thousand people attending. Again, we thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to seeing you all in the future Kia haumaru te noho e hoa ma The Board Te Poari Poitūkohu Māori o Aotearoa
