- Constitution Māori Basketball NZ 2013
Since 2000 New Zealand Basketball has not had an official NZ Māori Basketball program operating. The last official team endorsed by Basketball New Zealand was a men's and women's team who travelled to Tonga in 2000. Since 2004 we have had a number of NZ Māori Basketball teams participate in various international fixtures and tournaments both here at home and further abroad.
Although we don’t appear to have any official records of earlier NZ Māori Basketball teams there are elements of Māori Basketball either as a local National tournament or as teams selected to play against touring teams. There have been elements of Māori Basketball being played either as part of Iwi or Marae Games or as non-affiliated tournaments through local Basketball Associations or Clubs.
Basketball as a sport have had high numbers of Māori either playing, coaching, officiating at all levels or working in local Associations. Māori have represented their country in both the Tall Blacks and Tall Ferns and all levels of national age group teams and our people are going from strength to strength within playing and officiating circles.
Māori Basketball NZ have appointed their Board in alignment with the standing constitution.
